Short-term visitors to Canada are required to have a Temporary Canada Visa. In the visitor category, you have a variety of visa options to choose from, each designed for a particular purpose. A Super Visa is a type of visa that allows grandparents and parents to visit their grandchildren and children. With the Super Visa, you can enter the country multiple times over a period of up to ten years. An individual with a Super Visa can stay in Canada for up to two years at a time (updated to 5 years in 2022). Someone with a 10-year multiple entry visa, who would only be allowed to stay in Canada for six months at a time, after which they would have to request an extension. In order to qualify for a Super Visa, you must meet specific requirements:
- Must be the parent or grandparent of a citizen or permanent resident of Canada
- Must have a letter signed by your child or grandchild inviting you to Canada, which includes the following:
- The promise of financial support throughout your stay
- The names and ages of all the members of this person’s household
- Must confirm the …
- Documents proving this person’s citizenship or permanent residency in Canada
- Must show proof that you have medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company. The policy must include:
- A validity period of at least one year following the date of entry
- Coverage of at least $100,000
- Covers hospitalization, and medical
- Proof that the medical insurance has been paid – a quote will not be accepted
- Must complete a medical exam is required for the Super Visa
- Must show proof of funds: In order to invite you to their home, your child or grandchild must prove that their household has an income that meets the minimum requirement. Some examples of proof of income are listed below:
- The most recent T4/T1 or the Notice of Assessment (NOA)
- Proof of Job – an employment letter stating start date and salary
- Pay stubs or statement of earnings
- Bank account statements
